An intranet is a local network, meaning it does not require an internet connection to function. These contain information or databases that can be accessed to anyone that is logged on to the intranet. It follows the same protocals (rules) as the internet but it is private.

An example of an intranet is the SCHOOLNET. This contains files that are accessible to all teachers and students that have an account.

It is a corporate network that uses a IP network structure, together with web servers and browsers.
